World's Costliest Ski Chalets
Not a bad place to warm your feet. Yet this home is only one of several fantasy ski retreats--some for sale, others for rent--found by Forbes.com. We compiled our list by scouring listings and talking to brokers in the know.
As you might expect, most of the finest homes were in Aspen, Lake Tahoe or the Swiss Alps. A $100 million, eight-building compound in Zephyr Cove, Nev., sits on 210 acres of land and has nine bedrooms, 14 full and five half-baths, a 19-seat movie theater, a private lake and two par-three golf holes.

Arroyo’s stay in Dubai's costliest hotel draws ire from OFWs
Arroyo’s stay in Dubai's costliest hotel draws ire from OFWs
During her two-day visit to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, President Arroyo will be billeted not just in any hotel, but at the seven-star Burj Al-Arab, raising eyebrows among overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), ABS-CBN Middle East News Bureau reported Friday.
The President will spend her two evenings in Burj Al Arab, a seven-star hotel said to be Dubai's most expensive.
It is not known what type of room the President will occupy, but published rates in the Internet reveal that the most expensive room in Burj Al Arab is the Royal Suite, which costs US $10,900 or almost half a million pesos per overnight stay.
The cheapest room rate is about US $1,600 or almost P70,000 per night.
Burj Al Arab ranks tenth in the top ten most expensive hotel rooms in the world.
Meanwhile, the President’s official delegation is booked at the nearby Jumeirah Beach Resort, which is also one of Dubai’s costliest hotels.
OFWs said, they are not happy the way the President is spending taxpayer’s money.
"Siyempre sa hirap ng buhay sa atin, tapos ang isang presidente ay titira sa pinakamahal na hotel sa isang bansa, (Life is hard for us, then the president will stay in the most expensive hotel in the country)" said one OFW.
Other government officials said Arroyo’s visit is intended to address the problems now confronted by migrant workers.
One of the issues she wants to address is the poor exchange rate of the dollar against the peso.
She is also scheduled to meet with Dubai’s Chamber of Commerce and Filipino business leaders here in an effort to bring more investments to the Philippines and vice versa.
But militant group Migrante said, President Arroyo’s mission to Dubai got easily tainted with intrigue when she allowed to be booked in the famous Burj Al Arab.
"Malinaw na naglalayo sa layunin ng pagpunta niya dito, ito ba ay para lang siya magpasarap," said Migrante-UAE chair Cyrin Pinpin.
A source of ABS-CBN Middle East news Bureau also disclosed, First Gentleman Mike Arroyo had also visited Dubai a few months back and allegedly spent some of his evenings at the Burj Al Arab.

Sony Ericsson’s stunning concept phone
After the phonic fun that was the 3GSM congress in Barcelona this week, here’s a quick look at a rather appealing concept handset from the Japanese-Swedish axis that is Sony Ericsson that might one day become a reality.
The unnamed slider phone, as revealed by the wireless geeks at uber phones, looks like it’s made of polished glass and would need to come with an anti-fingerprint duster if ever released.
Pulchritude aside, the putative specs include an FM radio, a 3.2-megapixel camera and 2GB of onboard flash memory. We’ll take two please.
Alternatively, if you prefer to keep a little more grounded, feel free to check out the real-world phones over at the Sony Ericson photo gallery

Latest Fashion Trends for Spring 2007 Summer 2007
The latest fashion trends for Spring/Summer 2007 are all about 'dresses'. There is a fashion transition happening at the moment with romance in dress, versus futurism in dress.
On a fashion history point, I note that hemlines have been rising steadily for some two seasons and the ultra-short catwalk silhouette is leading to extreme leggy looks in mass produced garments for spring 2007.
This cream and orange bud print shift top (£45) is modelled here as a dress. See picture to the right from the main range of UK retailer Principles. With its bright abstract print, the short mini principles dress captures the optimistic spirit of summer and the graphic styling of late noughties prints. It can easily be worn either as a dress or tunic top.
The new sobriety in fashion demands that for Spring/Summer 2007 the midriff be covered, but expect to show a bit more leg .
Quite a bit more leg......

Aish: The costliest heroine!
The latest buzz over Shankar-Rajini’s next film ‘Robot’ is that the former Miss World, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who acts as the leading lady to superstar will be paid a whooping 6 crore rupees. The most sought after actress of India touches the highest mark in terms of salary received by any actress in Indian history.
‘Robot’ is in fact creating a history of sorts. It is the costliest film ever made in the subcontinent. The budget of ‘Robot’, which is made simultaneously in Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi, is said to hit 130 crores.
Aish hasn’t received so much salary for a movie even in her Hollywood commitments. The beautiful actress, who has virtually ruled the show world for more than 10 years, is currently getting 2 crores for a Hindi movie and 4 crores for a Hollywood film.
‘Robot’ is expected get rolling floors in April ‘08. The Tamil title is expected to be announced before the commencement of the shooting.
Shankar sure seems to get what he wants though he has to pay the price.

Who are the World's Highest Paid Actors?
The highest paid actors are not necessarily bound to the silver screen, either. Many television actors command huge fees for their work. Although Jennifer Aniston made her name on the hit television show Friends, she has successfully made the transition to film. Aniston is now regarded as a powerful figure in Hollywood, and she earned an estimated 18.5 million US dollars (USD) in 2005.
However, it is the big Hollywood film stars who are at the top of the list of highest paid actors. Tom Cruise has always had a bankable film career. Despite being ousted from his film company due to his personal life, Cruise still managed to rake in 31 million USD in 2005.
Johnny Depp was once regarded as an independent film favorite, but his films were never high earners. However, since his swashbuckling role in Pirates of the Caribbean, Depp has been raking in the big bucks. He managed to outearn the popular Cruise by bringing home 37 million USD in 2005.
Julia Roberts was one of the first women to break the 20 million USD a picture bracket. She has also managed to stay at the top in Hollywood despite the younger starlets snipping at her heels. Those younger highest paid actors include Cameron Diaz and Jennifer Garner, who brought in 13 and 14 million USD respectively in 2005.
The men in Hollywood have always been fighting at the top of the list of highest paid actors. Comedian Will Ferrell laughed all the way to the bank in 2005 when he pocketed 40 million USD. He was closely followed by I, Robot and Men in Black star Will Smith, who coined in around 35 million USD. The Spiderman franchise has been good to Tobey Macguire. At only 30 years old, his earnings for 2005 were in the 32 million USD bracket.
Ray Romano is now one of the world's highest paid actors. The Everybody Loves Raymond star earned 33 million USD for the final season of the show and is now due to make the jump to big screen roles. Romano's on-screen wife, Patricia Heaton, could only manage a paltry 9 million USD for the last season of Everybody Loves Raymond, but she looks set to rake in more money from the syndication of the show. A recently reported seven figure deal looks set to keep the cash flowing in.
For many of the highest paid actors, money does not equal credibility. Although they all earn high pay checks, most are not taken as seriously as a Robert DeNiro or an Al Pacino, at least not by the people who hand out Oscars. The businessmen and women who make a lot of money from these stars are not too worried by this, but high earning power does not always guarantee longevity in Hollywood – ask Macaulay Culkin.
